Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Pilates exercise and regular exercise?

Pilates exercise works from the inside out and regular exercise does the opposite. The deep intrinsic muscles of the body are activated allowing you to discover muscles you never knew you had.  Because Pilates is done with precision and control, the mind and the body work together, the results last longer, and the benefits become obvious the more you do it.

What is the difference between Pilates exercise and yoga exercise?

Both yoga and Pilates exercise connect mind and body, improve flexibility and muscle tone, and improve breath and posture.  But their goals are quite different. The goal of yoga has a spiritual aspect to prepare the body for meditation, although many classes today are taught to focus on the physical aspect. Pilates exercise is a flowing exercise program that trains the mind and body to work together to achieve correct postural alignment and improve imbalances and weaknesses specific to your body. The equipment used in a Pilates exercise studio make it easier for people of all ages and fitness levels to participate.

How many times per week should I do Pilates?

It is best to perform Pilates three days per week to see quicker results.  But even two days is beneficial.

Will Pilates help me lose weight?

Pilate exercise does increases muscle strength and combined with a proper diet, will help you lose inches around your stomach, thighs, and buttocks. Pilates builds core strength and flexibility and decreases back pain and joint pain.  It is one of the best exercises for the aging body because the movements are gentle yet effective in working the total body.
